My personal favorite line-up was 08 with Jackie.

I suggest listening to some current furthur.

Listening to last nite'ss Unbroken, and it rivals the best ones by ANY band. They do seem to be gettin better and better!

Thanks - listening to that now.
The Viola > Bertha > Viola thing is very interesting!

The Unbroken Chain I heard them do in July was really terrific. Just pounded it out.

Update - well, the Viola/Bertha thing didn't do much for me after all. I Know You Rider gets going nicely. I'll listen to more of it tomorrow.

Amen to that. What I liked best about P+F was that they didn't come off as a simple cover band. The lineup they had at that time was able to infuse their own take on the classics (what I respect most about Jackie). And throw in a Scofield for good measure and you've got a completely unique experience.

I've enjoyed the P&F bands. Ryan Adams and Jackie Greene became regular listens at the wineland home. Also like it when they brought in Joan Osborne. The female vocals really added a nice layer to the sound.

I loved the Joan presences with P&F and The Dead!

My fav post Jerry combo was Joan Jimmy and Warren, even after a great weekend the Rocks.

I still say Phil got the Muse when the band broke up in 95'.

Its his Bombs that are the difference maker to me.

Haven't seen the new DSO so I can't say but JK was fun with them and I appreciated the effort they gave to the music but it wasn't what P&Fs shows did for me.

The old and I would guess the new DSO were a cover band that took covering to a new level but didn't add much to it. I do think JK is evolving into his new roll, I loved the March Broomfield run but he was much better this time, not so much a "Jerry Copy" as before. IMHO
